BUDGETS

About 6-7 months ago, New York Public Libraries were in jeopardy of having their budgets cut drastically. This would have reduced service days and hours, delayed reopenings of renovated branches, and even tanked funding for materials, maintenance, and staffing. Fortunately, New Yorkers spoke out and we were able to avert the budget cut for 2025.

Though, the fact that public libraries were in danger in the first place is crazy to me. Libraries are one of the most important resources for EVERYONE. Libraries are the first and last line of defense for the literary world, preserving classic books and new favorites. Even though we succeeded in fighting back against the 2025 Budget Cut, I want this comic to be a reminder of what could have been and could potentially still happen in the future. We have to remain vigilant as our officials would prefer spending money on frivolous pursuits, like robotic police equipment, than support local institutions and arts programs.
